Danielle DeRise graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in English. She earned her M.F.A. in Creative Writing from UNC-Wilmington, where she taught literature and writing. Her experience working for the UNCW Admissions Office deepened her insight into all stages of the college application process. Danielle is Champion’s Executive Director; she teaches SAT and college essay prep, writing, literature and study skills. Robert McEwen is in his fifth year of the Mathematics Ph.D. program at the University of Virginia, and has worked one-on-one with students for many years. At Lafayette College, where he double-majored in Mathematics and Computer Science, he received a departmental distinction to teach any math class. Robert teaches Calculus at UVa while completing his dissertation in the field of Geometric Group Theory. Recently, he earned one of three Honorable Mentions for the University’s Mathematics Departmental Teaching Award. He teaches all levels of math at Champion and can adapt to any pedagogical challenge. For most of her life, Sarah Wright has been a devoted student of Spanish, both in the classroom—as a Spanish major at Northwestern University—and out, where she has worked in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Equatorial Guinea. She also has over seven years of experience teaching a variety of subjects in public and private schools. Sarah enjoys learning from her students, reading Spanish, and eating Mexican cuisine. |
