Standardized Test Prep

Since opening in 1994, we have helped many Charlottesville students successfully prepare for the SAT and ACT. Year after year we receive testimonials from parents, excited about a score improvement which has increased their child’s chance of acceptance into choice colleges.

SAT and ACT prep at Champion combines conceptual learning and review with proven test-taking strategies. The one-on-one setting allows us to effectively tailor our approach to each student’s test-taking style. Our instructors have successfully completed our SAT/ACT training program and most have past experience in SAT/ACT tutoring. All have the minimum of a B.A. in their field and all have teaching experience.

Repetition and consistency are the most effective paths toward improvement in the SAT/ACT. For this reason, we recommend one of the following programs:

Six-week: student meets twice weekly, once for Math and once for Verbal. Recommended if scores are about equal for both areas, or if the student feels it beneficial, from a test-taking perspective, to cover subjects simultaneously

Twelve-week: student studies one subject for 6 weeks, then moves to the other subject for the second 6 week period. Recommended if the student needs more conceptual instruction one area than another. Typically, we advise the student to schedule such that the weaker area is covered closer to test day.

Depending on his/her strengths & weaknesses, college search goals, and familiarity with the SAT/ACT test, your child may benefit from a different approach. Your free consultation will give you the opportunity to ask questions, and will also provide Champion with a clear picture of you and your child’s expectations for SAT/ACT prep.

Our teachers are trained in many specialized areas: SAT, SAT II (Subject Tests), ACT, AP, PSAT, SSAT, SOL, TOEFL, GED, GRE, PRAXIS, SHSAT, ISEE, and COMPASS
